Green Lantern art by Neal Adams – In 1970, writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neal Adams launched a new era of relevance in comics, crafting stories in which the Green Lantern – accompanied by his friend, Green Arrow – addressed important issues than considered taboo for the typical comic book.

Green Lantern #4 Jan/Feb 1961 – Art by Gil Kane & Joe Giella. As readers entered the Space Age, so did comics. Ace test pilot Hal Jordan took flight as Green Lantern, a galactic peace officer with an emerald power ring that could create virtually anything. Willpower and fearlessness marked Jordan as a hero for the times.

Looking over John Handler's booth you get the view of a talented artist, with a passion for superheroes. Batman and Catwoman, Lanterns, Captain America....

John had a large poster sized artwork that featured several of the Lanterns. I liked the style in which he was drawing his Green Lantern, so I requested the above sketch..

Neal Adams is known for helping to create images of several well-known DC Comics characters: Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Deadman...

Adams broke into the comics industry with Archie Comics providing some pages for The Fly, 1960. this led to work drawing backgrounds for the Bat Masterson newspaper comic strip with Howard Nostrand. After some freelance work in advertising, Adams was invited to draw samples for the newspaper comic strip Ben Casey in 1962...

At Warren Publishing, Adams' provided work with Archie Goodwin for "Curse of the Vampire", Creepy 1967. Adams' debut with DC came in 1967 on the anthology was series "Our Army at War". Adams would finally contribute to the Superhero comics with an Action Comics cover, featuring Superman, followed by Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane, Detective Comics, The Brave and the Bold, World's Finest Comics...

In 1969, while still freelancing for DC, Adams began working for Marvel Comics drawing for X-Men and horror anthologies...

The stamp commemorating DC Comics' Green Lantern, issued in 2006, comes from the Green Lantern-Green Arrow #76 cover, April 1970, featuring Adams' artwork. It was this issue that revamped the characters of the Green Lantern and Green Arrow. Adams and Dennis O'Neil brought together two very different heroes and took their story through social issues as well as the typical superhero adventure...

Adams would go on to illustrate - Tarzan, Megalith, Bucky O'Hare, Ms. Mystic, the Spectre, JLA, Teen Titans, Elongated Man, Avengers, Conan the Barbarian, Thor, Batman and Robin, Vampirella, and many others.

Adams was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame 1998 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame 1999, voted Favorite Comic Book artist 1977, 1978, Inkpot Award 1977...

It was a pleasure spending a few minutes with Neal Adams, a delightful man and excellent artist...we all know bow ties are cool, but Adam's was wearing a Joker tie, also cool...

Howard Bender - Green Lantern

Howard Bender is a freelance comics artist and illustrator, having studied at the Arts Students league, Artist Guild and the Ivy School of Professional Art. After contributions to fanzines and lettering jobs at Marvel, in the 1970s, Bender went to work for the big companies in the 1980s, starting at Harvey on Richie Rich. Bender contributed to DC's ghost and superhero titles, including Supergirl, Dial H for Hero, Action Comics, as well as some work for Marvel on Silver Hawks, Spider-Man. With Gladstone Publishing he worked on "Dread of Night" and "Maggots". At First Publishing he worked on "Ghostbusters" and "Munden's Bar". In the 1990s Bender worked for Archie Comics.

1996 drew one of four mini comics for Hanna-Barbera's Johnny Quest, which was packaged with the VHS of the show.

Bender has also created his own original characters and titles  "Mr. Fixitt"(Apple Comics), "Billy & Pop" and "Sherlock Holmes Minute Mysteries"...

Bender also draws caricatures and is often at the Superheroes for Hospice Monmouth comic sale providing caricatures...

Ian Glaubinger - NY Ranger Win the Stanley Cup

When I read Ian's bio he mentioned several times that he loves hockey. Being a hockey fan myself, I knew the perfect cover to get a sketch on. NY Rangers Stanley Cup Victory Commemorative cover.

June 14, 1994 the day the Rangers finally win the Stanley Cup, ending the 54 year wait. I had one requirement of my cover, that a superhero had to wear the Rangers jersey. It turns out that both Ian and I are actually Devils fans, but give the Rangers their due, they won. By the way the Devils won the following year!

I wonder if Ian knows the truth behind the Rangers victory, they had help from the Green Lantern!

What I like about Ian's work is the true comic style of the characters. Be sure to check out his work.
