Jae Lee

2017.11.18 NJ Comic Expo, Edison, NJ

Jae Lee has provided work for Marvel Comic, DC Comics, Image Comics and Dynamite Entertainment working on titles such as Action Comics, Batman: Jekyll & Hyde, Fables, Superman, The Darkenss: Prelude, WildC.A.T.s, Hellshock, Witchblade, Captain America, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Hulk & Thing, Spider-Man, Transformers/GI Joe and many others...

I was looking forward to obtaining a sketch from Jae, but was not sure what I should request. I did my usual and asked what he would like to draw. His response was he liked to draw monsters. I offered the Star Trek envelope and Jae immediately knew what he wanted to do...

When I went back to his booth to pick up the cover he handed me a Gorn. The Gorn appeared in 1967, Star Trek season 1, episode 18 The Arena. When 2 ships enter a guarded sector of space by the Metrons, they beam the captains of both ships to the surface of an unnamed planet. Here the Gorn, a reptilian creature, fights Captain Kirk in a trial by combat...

Reilly Brown - Outrage

2018.02.10 WinterCon, East Brunswick, NJ
Reilly Brown and Fabian Nicieza are creating a webcomic about a superhero who goes after the jerks who tweet and post anything that picks on others. Outrage a mysterious hero can navigate his way through the internet, As Reilly put it, "it is like a hand reaching out through your computer to smack you in the head!" The Webcomic will be hosted at WebToon

Reilly is traditionally is an comic book artist and illustrator, who started with self published comics in 2002. He has contributed work to Dark Horse, Archie, Tantor Media and most notably Marvel Comics on Deadpool. He has also created the webcomic Dash Hudson - Tentacles of the Trident, and as co-creator, with Kurt Christenson, of Power Play available on comiXology.

Since I have not read a lot of Deadpool, I was more intrigued by the character Outrage. I picked a Progress in Electronics first day cover and asked if he would be willing to provide a sketch of Outrage. Reilly agreed, saying this would be his first commission sketch of the character!

Joe Wigfield - Conductor Pug

2017.11.19 NJ Comic Expo, Edison, NJ

While I was looking over Joe's booth, I noticed a trend of Pug art. Pug Iron Man, Pug Captain America, Pug Ragnaruff, Pug Batman..you get the idea...

It seems Joe has a Pug and it's his inspiration. So I requested a sketch of a Pug, in any incarnation that Joe could think of. I picked the Owney mascot of the Railway Mail Service first day cover. Joe and his wife looked up the story of Owney, a stray who traveled the rails in the Post Office cars. The postal workers adopted and cared for him as he traveled around the country. Check out the Smithsonian site for more info here

I thought Joe was going to sketch a superhero, but he read the story and changed the idea to a Pug train conductor. Excellent idea, Thank you Joe...
