Kukori and Kotkoda : 2021 - Hungary

Magyar Posta is issuing a numbered special souvenir sheet on the theme Cartoon and Fairy Tale Characters using the characters of the cartoon Kukori and Kotkoda, the creation of the writer Ágnes Bálint and the graphic designer and director János Mata. The souvenir sheet designed by the graphic artist István Weisenburger 

Kukori and Kotkoda was the first cartoon series to be commissioned by Hungarian Television, with a total of 26 episodes were made of the cartoon between 1970 and 1972.  The inspiration for the basic idea for the cartoon series came from a colleague of Bálint, who often complained that her husband was unwilling to do any chores around the house. This is how Kukori, the cockerel, was born, whose laziness annoyed Kotkoda, the hen, in every episode. 

Jules Verne - Captain Nemo : 2019 Hungary

Magyar Posta - Hungary issued a miniature sheet of 4 stamps with a surcharge in support of youth philately. The subject of these stamps is Jules Verne's Captain Nemo from the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The stamps were designed by graphic artist Zsolt Vidák, produced by ANY Security Printing Co.

Captain Nemo first appeared in Verne's novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870) and later in The Mysterious Island (1875). 

Jules Verne - Around the World in 80 Days : 2023 Alderny

Around the World in Eighty Days is a travel adventure novel by French author Jules Verne (1828-1905), that was published in book form in 1873. Jules Verne is often referred to as being the father of science fiction – his books are full of descriptions of incredible technological advances, many of which have come to fruition since he wrote about them in the 19th Century. He made his mark beyond the world of literature and film, inspiring generation of inventors, explorers and scientists. For over a century, adventurers have followed in the footsteps of Verne’s fictional hero Phileas Fogg by attempting to circumnavigate the globe in record-breaking times. 

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Around the World in 80 Days, the British Channel Island’s Guernsey Post has issued the Alderney stamp set. The stamps were illustrated by Keith Robinson, who has depicted some of the key events from main character Phileas Fogg’s globe-trotting adventure with his French manservant, Passepartout.

National Philately Day stamps designed by Italian cartoonist Zeorcalcare (Michele Rech), featuring the Armadillo and Lady Cocca. The theme of the issue is Return to write (Tornare a scrivere), encouraging younger generations to rediscover the pleasure of handwritten communication.

The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger – The year 2008 marked the 75th anniversary of the Lone Ranger. Since his radio debut in 1933, this masked hero has captivated loyal fans in books, movies, comics an – most successfully of all – television. Clayton Moore played the virtuous if mysterious title character who ws beloved for his valor, righteousness and the jaunty command he gave his white horse:”Hi-yo, Silver, away!”

The Lone Ranger is a fictional masked former Texas Ranger who fought outlaws in the American Old West with his Native American friend Tonto. The character has been called an enduring icon of American culture.

He first appeared in 1933 in a radio show on WXYZ (Detroit), conceived either by station owner George W. Trendle and/or by Fran Striker, the show's writer. The radio series proved to be a hit, and spawned a series of books (largely written by Striker), an equally popular television show that ran from 1949 to 1957, comic books, and several films.

The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy troupe active from 1922 until 1970, best remembered for their 190 short-subject films by Columbia Pictures. Their hallmark styles were physical, farce, and slapstick comedy. Six Stooges appeared over the act's run, with only three working at any given time.

Twelve of France's leading comic strip artists designed the twelve stamps that male up France's 1988 “La Communication” booklet; each artist was also a Gran Prize winner from the Comic Strip Festival of Angoulême, France, from 1976 through 1987.

GB Trudeau - Doonesbury

Garretson Beekman Trudeau is an American cartoonist best known for creating the Doonesbury comic strip.Trudeau won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1975, making him the first comic strip artist to win a Pulitzer. He is one of only two comic strip artists to win the award, the other being Berkeley Breathed, whose work was influenced by Trudeau.

Trudeau published The Doonesbury Stamp Book in 1990, through Penguin Books, 16 pages of faux postage stamps, along with larger labels utilizing characters from the Doonesbury comic strip. Includes many references to the 1980s, including Poppy Bush, Dan Quayle, Donald Trump (the Ivana years), smoking cheerleader "Buttsy Butts", his friend "Mister Jay" etc.

Several signed items by GB Trudeau also have stamps from the album included as part of the art

Paddington Bear - Greetings : 1994

Paddington Bear was featured on one of the 1st class Greetings Messages stamps, released by Royal Mail on 1 February 1994

Paddington Bear, also known as Paddington Brown, is an anthropomorphic bear in British children's literature. He first appeared on 1958-Oct-13 in A Bear Called Paddington by British author Michael Bond. He has been featured in 29 books written by Bond, the last of which, Paddington at St. Paul's, was published posthumously in 2018. The books have been illustrated by Peggy Fortnum, David McKee, R. W. Alley, and other artists.

Gilligan's Island

Gilligan's Island (1964-1967) inspired a set of fantasy labels (poster stamps) from the island. The labels were issued around 1967 in two values: $1 green and $2 brown, both perforated 11.5 and imperforated. Forgeries and repints are known to exist

A later printing of the $1 value in blue on goldenrod paper was issued. The stamps can be found on cover with various markings (still looking for some)

The television movie Rescue form Gilligan's Island released in 1978 inspired antoher issue, this time with the word RESCUE inscribed on the island's mountain.Printed with four stamps per sheet in various colors

The island view from the shows opening credits was Coconut Island, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr. (1889 – 1977) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, singer, film editor and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, the Tramp, and is considered one of the film industry's most important figures. His career spanned more than 75 years, from his childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977.
