James chose to draw Black Panther after seeing the Disney Lion King FDC. When I asked him which character he preferred to draw James responded the Beast. The closest FDC I had featured a hamster stamp, to which James asked to look at the available covers to choose from. I like the choice of Black Panther and Lion King.... Black panther first appeared in Marvel Comics Fantastic Four #52 (1966), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, as the first black superhero. Black Panther would eventually join the Avengers in 1968.
